There are different rituals that are performed almost six times every day in the Thirunallar Temple. The main rituals are held on mostly Saturdays that are considered to be the day of Lord Shani
Some of the poojas and rituals on this day include Usha kaalam, Kaalasandhi, Uchi kaalam, Saayaratchai, Irandaam kaalam and the Artha jaamam. Some of the other rituals in the temple include the Nadai thirappu that is held on all the days of the week except for the Saturdays.
Apart from these there is a special ritual that is held when the planet Saturn shifts from a zodiac sign to another. It is at this time that millions of people visit this temple in order to offer their worship to the Lord Shani. People come to this temple during this time and bathe in the waters. It is believed that bathing in the temple waters during this time will wash away all the pain and suffering from the lives of the people. Apart from that this holy bathing also washes off the misdoings of the people in their past lives. This bathing can make them clean and pure thereby removing all the miseries and mistakes that might be there in their lives.
